For the past few weeks, I’ve been thinking about how great it would be if there were an organised group for educators within SGI-UK.

Apparently there is. They had a meeting at Taplow Court on Saturday at the same time as the student division study day. It seems like they’re quite small at the moment with not a lot of activity, but they’re there.

I managed to get an e-mail address of someone who was involved and I’ve now been added to the educators’ group (albeit prematurely). Exciting.

Here at Tutorspree, math is by far our most in-demand subject for tutoring. We see more requests for math help than for the next two most popular subjects combined (English and Science, in case you’re curious).

Math is so difficult for so many people that books and even Barbie dolls have been devoted to the hatred of the subject. On the contrary, it does come easily to some — there always seems to be at least one kid in every school who skips two or three grades in math and breezes through calculus.

Today was my last day of helping out at the High School of Dundee maths dept. I’ve really enjoyed my time there, despite my general feelings towards independent schools.

Such gratitude for those teachers who let me into their classrooms and taught me a lot about the teaching profession. An invaluable opportunity which will surely have a significant impact on shaping me as a teacher.

Perhaps I’ll return there one day. For now, goodbye, beautiful school.

Why have I started a new blog? It would seem I’m getting something of an addiction. However, every blog I’ve ever started serves a unique purpose.

What is the purpose of this blog? Well, I’m about to start something big in my life. My career, yes, but more than that, what I believe is my true mission in this life.

I want to make an impact on the field of education. What kind of impact? I don’t know. I’m going to become a teacher—that seems a sensible place to start. 

I want to teach in Scotland, my homeland, which I love and to which I owe a great debt of gratitude. Scotland must be the stage for my mission. 

I want to forge a deep understanding of the principles of Soka Education and implement them; live them. I will give my whole life to education as my lasting contribution to kosen-rufu. I will leave something behind for future generations.

Wait… why have I started a new blog? I’m going to need a record of this journey, for my own sake and the sake of others. I’ll need a place that will remind me why I should keep going and re-inspire me when the going gets rough. I’ll need to know where I’ve been in order to get to where I’m going. A blog helps with this.
